A Chinese porcelain ginger jar and cover of ovoid form, decorated in an overglaze polychrome enamel palette. The body features a central scene of a lady in a garden setting holding a fan, accompanied by two children. The scene includes stylized garden rockwork, a fence, and a tree with variegated leaves. The shoulder of the jar is decorated with a ruyi-head border in red, yellow, and blue. The domed cover is finished with a simple turquoise and black decorative band around the rim. The base features a red-stamped factory mark consisting of six Chinese characters arranged in three vertical columns within a double-lined square border. The characters transcribe as Zhongguo Jingdezhen Zhi, which translates to Made in Jingdezhen, China. Below the square border is the letter N positioned between two sets of horizontal lines. This mark is characteristic of porcelain produced in the state-run factories of Jingdezhen during the People’s Republic of China period, likely dating from the 1960s to the 1980s.
Condition report:
The jar and cover appear to be in good overall condition. There is visible surface soiling and shelf wear to the unglazed footrim and the rim of the lid. Some minor kiln grit and firing imperfections are present, which are typical for this type of production. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs are apparent.
