This lot comprises two late 20th-century British Rail (BR) staff uniform peaked caps and one associated waterproof rain cover. The first cap is constructed from a dark navy wool and polyester blend fabric, featuring a silver-toned metal double arrow corporate insignia on the front and a stiffened black patent-style peak. The interior is fitted with a tan leather sweatband and bears printed markings for size 7 1/8 and a material composition of 60% wool and 40% polyester. The second cap is a dark navy fabric variant featuring a rectangular embroidered cloth badge, which displays the white double arrow logo on a red ground with a gold-coloured embroidered border. This cap features a fabric-covered peak and a black fabric-lined interior with a clear diamond-shaped plastic crown protector and a black sweatband. The lot also includes a black synthetic waterproof cap cover with an elasticated edge, designed to fit over the peaked caps for protection in wet weather.
Condition report:
Both caps show signs of regular service wear consistent with age and use. The dark navy fabric on both items exhibits some lint and dust accumulation. The patent peak of the first cap shows minor surface scuffing. The interior leather and fabric sweatbands show typical signs of ageing and wear from use. The waterproof cover remains intact and appears fully functional.
