A 1988 United Kingdom Proof Coin Collection issued by the Royal Mint. This set comprises seven coins struck to proof standards, housed in a clear protective mount and presented in a blue textured presentation case featuring a silver-coloured royal coat of arms. The collection includes a nickel-brass one pound coin with a crowned royal shield reverse, a cupro-nickel fifty pence with a Britannia reverse, a twenty pence with a crowned Tudor rose, a ten pence with a crowned lion, and a five pence with a crowned thistle. The bronze-composition two pence features the Prince of Wales’s feathers, and the one penny displays a crowned portcullis. Each coin exhibits sharp strikes and mirror-like fields characteristic of proof-quality minting. The set is accompanied by a black commemorative plaque inscribed Elizabeth R 1988 and an original white card from the Royal Mint.
Condition report:
The coins remain in as-issued proof condition, well-preserved within the original clear mounting. No significant toning, spotting, or handling marks are visible on the coin surfaces. The presentation case and internal plaque are in good order with only minor evidence of shelf wear to the exterior.
