A collection of coins comprising the 1970 coinage of Great Britain and Northern Ireland proof set. This set was issued as the final proof collection of pre-decimal sterling coinage prior to decimalisation in 1971. The group includes cupro-nickel, nickel-brass, and bronze denominations: halfcrown, florin, English shilling, Scottish shilling, sixpence, threepence, penny, and halfpenny. All coins feature the first portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick on the obverse with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D. The set includes a square bronze-toned commemorative plaque featuring a crown and the inscription Elizabeth R 1970. All items are housed in the original Royal Mint clear acrylic case with a purple velvet-effect insert.
Condition report:
Uncirculated proof condition. The coins exhibit high-lustre mirrored fields and frosted relief details. There are no significant signs of toning or spotting. The acrylic presentation case shows light surface abrasions and scratches consistent with handling.
