A 2015 commemorative medal struck to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, part of the Battle of Britain Men and Machines series produced by the London Mint Office in association with the Royal Air Forces Association. The piece is struck in solid bronze and layered in pure silver with a proof finish. The obverse depicts the Royal Air Force crest centred over a frosted numeral 75, with inscriptions including BATTLE OF BRITAIN, 2015, 75TH ANNIVERSARY, and the motto PER ARDUA AD ASTRA. The reverse features a profile portrait of fighter ace Sir Douglas Bader set against a Hawker Hurricane and crosshair design, inscribed FIGHTER ACE SIR DOUGLAS BADER, the years 1940 and 2015, and the translated motto THROUGH ADVERSITY TO THE STARS. The medal is presented in a clear protective capsule and is accompanied by the original Certificate of Commemorative Specifications confirming an edition limit of 9,999.
