This 2008 silver proof five-pound commemorative crown was issued under the authority of St. Helena and Ascension as part of the History of the RAF Silver Proof Crown Collection. Struck in .925 sterling silver, the coin commemorates the De Havilland Mosquito aircraft. The obverse features the third definitive UK portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, designed by Raphael Maklouf, with the legend ELIZABETH II ST. HELENA + ASCENSION 2008. The reverse, designed by the Royal Mint Engraving Team, depicts three De Havilland Mosquito aircraft in flight set against concentric lines, featuring a selectively coloured Royal Air Force roundel. The reverse inscriptions read FIVE POUNDS and MOSQUITO. The coin is housed in a clear protective capsule and is accompanied by its original descriptive literature. The issue limit for this collection was 20,000 pieces.
