A United Kingdom silver proof 50 pence coin issued by the Royal Mint in 2000 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Public Libraries Act 1850. The reverse design, created by Mary Milner Dickens, features an open book with pages turning above a classical library building facade with four columns. The reverse fields are inscribed with 1850, 2000, 50 PENCE, and PUBLIC LIBRARIES. Struck in .925 sterling silver, the coin exhibits a proof finish characterized by frosted relief details and mirrored fields. The coin is housed in its original clear protective capsule and presented in a dark green Royal Mint display case with the Royal Mint coat of arms printed on the inner lid. The set is accompanied by the original Certificate of Authenticity.
