A pair of Italian ceramic pedestal chalices manufactured by Il Verrocchio, Florence. Each vessel is constructed of earthenware and finished with a deep burgundy red glaze. The chalices feature a wide, flared rim and a tapered pedestal base terminating in a flared foot. The main body of each piece is decorated with a wide, hand-painted geometric band consisting of repeating stylised pointed ovals and petal motifs in gold, black, and blue. Additional gilt banding accents the rims, shoulders, and foot rings. The underside of the base bears a circular backstamp in white ink with the text Il – VERROCCHIO – florence – italy surrounding a central stylised graphic mark.
Condition report:
Both chalices are in good overall condition. There are no visible cracks, chips to the glazed body, or significant losses to the painted decoration. Minor age-appropriate shelf wear is present, including small nicks and abrasions to the unglazed foot rings on the underside.
