This mid-20th-century studio pottery vase was produced by Cinque Ports Pottery at The Monastery in Rye, East Sussex. The vessel is designed with a flared rim above a constricted neck and a bulbous ovoid body that tapers to a narrow circular foot. The interior of the neck is finished with a deep chocolate brown glaze. The exterior decoration consists of hand-painted horizontal bands in mustard yellow and teal set against a speckled matte cream ground. The lower two-thirds of the body features a textured mesh pattern of vertical and horizontal lines in variegated shades of green and brown. The base bears a circular blue ink backstamp reading CINQUE PORTS POTTERY LTD. around the outer edge and THE MONASTERY RYE to the centre. There is an additional hand-painted mark in brown glaze resembling a horseshoe or a lowercase u.
Condition report:
The vase is in good overall condition. There is visible fine crazing to the glaze on the underside of the base. Minor surface wear and light staining are present, consistent with age and use. No chips, cracks, or repairs are evident from the provided images.
