A vintage relief-molded ceramic souvenir mug, likely manufactured in the mid-20th century. The cylindrical body is decorated with a polychrome Alpine landscape in high relief, featuring a snow-capped mountain range under a deep cobalt blue sky, a red-roofed chalet, and the Swiss national flag. The lower portion of the central scene includes a spoked wheel and a scroll bearing the embossed inscription SUISSE. The piece features a textured faux bois or bark-effect handle and is finished with a glossy caramel-coloured glaze to the interior and rim. Similar examples from this period were frequently produced in Japan for the European tourist market.
Condition report:
The mug exhibits a visible vertical hairline crack or deep crazing line running through the cobalt blue glaze on the upper section of the body. There is general surface wear, minor glaze pops, and manufacturing imperfections consistent with its age and use as a souvenir item.
