A collection of souvenir and decorative thimbles presented in four wooden display racks. The thimbles are primarily of ceramic and porcelain construction with transfer-printed decorations. Many examples feature British and international topographical names, including Devon, Liverpool, Whitby, Nottingham, Stratford, Tenerife, and Westward Ho!. The collection also includes motifs such as animals, flowers, and commemorative events including a coronation. A small number of metal thimbles with various embossed and textured finishes are also included. The wooden display racks are tiered, with three designed in the shape of cottages or houses. One rack features a scroll-shaped wooden header with the text Thimbleville applied in script.
Condition report:
The collection is in used condition with surface dust present throughout. The wooden display racks show minor surface wear and superficial scuffs. The Thimbleville header piece has a visible chip and loss to the wood on the upper left edge. Some individual thimbles may exhibit minor rubbing to the printed or gilt decorations.
