Lot 179: Two pairs of gold-tone and shell drop earrings
A collection of two matched pairs of vintage drop earrings. The first pair is produced by Ariki of New Zealand, featuring elongated, curved drops inlaid with iridescent paua shell displaying characteristic shades of vibrant blue, green, and purple. Each shell inlay is bordered by a textured yellow gold-tone wing-like frame and suspended from a ball post. This pair is contained in its original blue presentation box with a lid label reading New Zealand Ariki Paua Shell. The second pair consists of geometric, triangular drops inlaid with a peach-coloured shell material showing horizontal banding and natural lustre. These are set within yellow gold-tone frames and suspended from ball posts. This pair is housed in a generic red hinged presentation box with a white satin-lined lid.
Condition report:
Both pairs are in good vintage condition with minor surface scratches and light oxidation to the metal components consistent with age and use. One earring from the Ariki pair is missing its butterfly scroll back. The presentation boxes show minor signs of storage wear.
