A large vintage try square produced by Moore & Wright (M&W) of Sheffield, England. The tool comprises a heavy, L-shaped stock made from a dark-stained hardwood and a long, flat steel blade. The maker’s mark is visible on the side of the stock, featuring the characters M&W enclosed within a horizontal oval. The blade is securely inset into the stock.
Blade length: approximately 23 inches (58 cm).
Condition report:
The item is in used vintage condition. The wooden stock displays significant wear, with extensive chipping and loss to the original dark surface finish, revealing the lighter wood underneath. The steel blade has developed a dark, aged patina with visible surface oxidation across both sides. The tool appears structurally complete.
