An extensive collection of mid-century glazed earthenware tableware, designed in the majolica tradition with relief-molded cabbage and lettuce leaf textures. The pieces are finished in a vibrant green glaze, many featuring applied red tomato accents with green stems. This assortment, resembling the work of British potteries such as Beswick, Carlton Ware, or Shorter & Son, includes a diverse range of functional forms. The collection features two large serving bowls (one triangular and one circular), a large circular divided serving dish with a central well, an oval platter accompanied by ceramic salad servers with butterfly-decorated finials, and a pierced berry strainer or colander. The group further comprises various leaf-shaped plates and platters of varying sizes, a lidded butter dish, a lidded tomato-form preserve pot, a sauce boat with a matching stand, and a small three-section condiment dish. One leaf-shaped dish is finished in a contrasting white glaze.
Triangular bowl: approximately 10 inches (25.5 cm) wide
Pierced strainer bowl: approximately 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) diameter
Large leaf plate: approximately 9 inches (23 cm) long.
Condition report:
The collection appears in good vintage condition overall. Fine, consistent surface crazing is visible throughout the glaze on several pieces, which is a common characteristic for earthenware of this period. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs are evident upon visual inspection.
