Start price: £10

Estimated price: £20 - £30

Buyer's Premium:

An antique biscuit barrel of traditional staved oak construction, accented with horizontal incised banding. The vessel features silver-plated metal mounts including a top and bottom rim, a swing bale handle, and a vacant shield-shaped cartouche to the front. The fitted, removable lid is surmounted by a central turned finial. The interior contains a removable white ceramic liner. The lot is accompanied by a collection of vintage turned and painted wooden fruit-shaped miniatures. The base of the ceramic liner features a partial blue transfer-printed mark, of which only the numeral 7 remains clearly legible. This style of barrel is characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century British domestic tableware.

Condition report:

Overall good condition consistent with age. The oak staves show minor surface scuffs and light wear to the finish. The silver-plated mounts exhibit light surface scratching and areas of minor tarnish. The ceramic liner displays signs of use with internal staining and light crazing. The maker\'s mark to the underside of the liner is partially rubbed and largely illegible.
