A silver-coloured fantasy crown type or modern replica based on the coinage of William IV. This piece is a fantasy issue as silver crowns with the St George and Dragon reverse were not struck for circulation in 1837. The obverse features a bare-head portrait of William IV facing right, surrounded by the legend GULIELMUS IIII D:G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D:. The reverse displays the St George and Dragon design after Benedetto Pistrucci with the date 1837 in the exergue. The item exhibits physical characteristics of a cast production, specifically a grainy and pitted surface texture across both faces and soft, indistinct details in the hair and horse’s features.
Condition report:
Fine. The piece shows characteristic cast surfaces with a grainy texture and numerous small pits. The details are soft throughout. There is evidence of surface wear, minor scratches, and greyish discolouration.
