The set comprises kings and queens depicted as royal figures, bishops as religious figures, knights as mounted chargers, rooks as crenelated towers, and pawns as foot soldiers. The pieces are presented on a square board with a dark base and a metallic gold-tone overlay. The board is decorated with etched scrollwork borders and a chequerboard pattern, and is elevated by four ornate cast metal feet. No maker marks, signatures, or country of origin stamps are visible on the pieces or the board. The design is in the style of manufacturers such as Manopoulos.
Condition report:
The set shows signs of handling and age. There is scuffing and rubbing to the board finish, especially on the borders and playing squares. The metal figures exhibit some surface oxidation, minor rubbing to the plating, and casting irregularities.
