A Royal Crown Derby bone china table lighter decorated in the traditional Old Imari pattern, number 1128. The piece features a squat, globular ceramic body housing a recessed gold-toned metal lighter insert. The decoration consists of underglaze cobalt blue panels, hand-painted iron-red floral motifs, and extensive 22-carat gold gilding, including geometric lattice-work and scrolled borders. The base is marked in red with the Royal Crown Derby crown and monogram above the words Derby China, Royal Crown Derby, and English Bone China. It also bears the pattern number 1128 and the Roman numeral date code XXXXVII, indicating a manufacture date of 1984. Additional markings include a green hand-painted painter’s mark and four small gold dots.
Condition report:
The ceramic body is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The gilding remains bright with minimal signs of wear. The metal lighter mechanism shows light surface scratches and minor tarnish consistent with age; the functionality of the lighter has not been tested.
