This 1987 United Kingdom Proof Coin Collection is a set issued by the Royal Mint, presented in the original blue fold-over case with an accompanying certificate of authenticity. The collection comprises several coins struck to proof standards in various base metal compositions. The set includes a nickel-brass one pound coin, cupro-nickel fifty pence, twenty pence, ten pence, and five pence coins, and bronze two pence and one penny coins. The obverse of each coin features the third circulating effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. Reverse designs include the oak tree within a coronet on the one pound, Britannia on the fifty pence, a crowned Tudor rose on the twenty pence, a crowned lion on the ten pence, a crowned thistle on the five pence, the Prince of Wales’s feathers on the two pence, and a crowned portcullis on the one penny. A central square plaque featuring a crown and the inscription Elizabeth R 1987 is mounted within the display. The coins are housed in a protective plastic insert within a blue leatherette case with a white satin-lined interior and gold-toned Royal Mint lettering on the outer cover.
Condition report:
The coins are in proof condition, characterized by frosted relief details and highly reflective, mirror-like fields. No significant oxidation, toning, or handling marks are visible on the coin surfaces. The presentation case and paper certificate are in good order, showing only minor shelf wear and light handling consistent with age.
