A 1994 Republic of Liberia 5 Dollar silver commemorative coin issued to celebrate Formula One racing. The coin was struck at the Pobjoy Mint, identified by the PM mint mark located near the date. The obverse features the Republic of Liberia Coat of Arms, including a shield with a sailing ship, palm tree, and rising sun, with the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE on a scroll. Surrounding text includes REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA, 1994, 5 DOLLARS, and FINE SILVER HALF OUNCE. The reverse bears a portrait of British driver Damon Hill alongside a Formula One car, a racing helmet, a laurel wreath, and the Union Jack flag. Inscriptions read DAMON HILL, FORMULA ONE, and $5. The piece is struck in fine silver with a proof-like finish, characterised by frosted devices and mirrored fields.
Condition report:
The coin displays a sharp cameo effect with well-defined frosted details. Light surface hairlines and minor scratches are visible across the mirrored fields. There is evidence of minor peripheral toning and haze on both the obverse and reverse surfaces. The edges appear intact without significant knocks.
