A large bisque porcelain figurine depicting a youth in rustic attire, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, seated astride a heavy shire horse. The figure is hand-painted in muted, naturalistic tones of cream, ochre, and earthy reds. The youth holds a long, dark staff in both hands. The entire scene is set upon an integral base modelled to represent uneven ground. This model is closely associated with the production of Royal Dux, Bohemia, typically dating to the early 20th century. No factory marks or model numbers are visible on the upper surfaces of the figurine. The staff is a separate component and appears to be made of a different material, potentially wood or oxidised metal.
Base length: 18 cm
Overall height: 35 cm.
Condition report:
The figurine shows a significant accumulation of surface dust and grime throughout, particularly within the textured areas of the horse\'s mane and the folds of the youth\'s clothing. There is a visible chip to the tip of the horse\'s left ear. The staff held by the figure may be a later replacement. No other major cracks, breaks, or professional repairs are evident from external inspection. A full assessment of the base underside has not been performed.
