Start price: £5

Estimated price: £20 - £30

Buyer's Premium:

A traditional Moroccan lidded teapot, known as a Berrad, produced by Dar Enser. The item features a bulbous, compressed globular body decorated with intricate repoussé and chased floral motifs, centred on large multi-petalled blossoms against a stippled background. It is designed with a high, tiered dome lid attached by a hinge and topped with a graduated disc finial. The teapot is supported by four cast scroll feet with foliate detailing and features a curved swan-neck spout and a C-scroll handle. The construction is silver-plated base metal, revealing a yellowish copper alloy through areas of wear. The base is stamped with the manufacturer’s mark comprising the Arabic script فضة حرة (Fidda Hurra) above the name DAR ENSER and an eagle graphic with outspread wings. A further rectangular stamp containing stylised Arabic script is present to the lower right of the eagle.

Condition report:

The teapot exhibits visible wear consistent with age and regular use. There is significant loss to the silver plating on the handle, feet, base, and the high relief points of the decoration, exposing the yellowish base metal beneath. General light tarnishing is present throughout.
