A large cast iron cauldron or laundry pot, likely dating from the 19th to early 20th century. The vessel is cast in one piece with a round-bellied form and heavy-walled construction. It features two integral D-shaped lug handles at the rim for lifting. On the side of the body, there is a raised, embossed oval cartouche. The interior of the mark is heavily pitted and oxidised, meaning any specific foundry name or symbols are not currently legible. This item is a representative example of British industrial cast ironware, produced by foundries such as Archibald Kenrick and Sons or T. and C. Clark and Co. during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
Condition report:
The item shows significant signs of age and long-term storage. There is extensive surface oxidation and rust across the exterior, interior, and handles. The metal surface exhibits noticeable pitting. The interior contains loose debris and cobwebs. It retains a dark, weathered patina consistent with its age and material.
