Attributed to the Cannon Hollowware Co., this large cast iron cooking pot is of traditional bulbous form. The piece is complete with its original fitted lid featuring a central rectangular loop handle. It is equipped with a swinging bail handle made of wrought iron or heavy-gauge wire, designed with a central V-bend to facilitate hanging over an open fire or from a chimney crane. This type of domestic hollowware was prevalent in the United Kingdom during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No maker’s marks are visible due to the current surface condition.
Condition report:
The item is in a heavily weathered state with pervasive surface rust and oxidation affecting the entirety of the cast iron and the bail handle. The structure remains intact with no visible cracks or through-holes. The pot requires complete restoration and re-seasoning.
