An antique domestic washboard featuring a weathered wooden frame and a heavy aqua-tinted glass rubbing panel. The glass panel exhibits a distinctive pressed herringbone or cable-twist pattern, a design characteristic of the early 20th century and similar to models produced by the Howard Manufacturing Company and the National Washboard Co. The frame is constructed of plain timber with a wide top board, side rails, and two cross-members. The assembly is secured with period iron nails. There are no visible maker’s marks or printed labels on the header board.
Width: 300 mm.
Condition report:
The piece shows significant weathering and age-related wear consistent with its utilitarian purpose. The wooden frame has a silvered surface with minor splitting, abrasions, and evidence of previous exposure to moisture. The iron nails are heavily oxidised. The glass panel displays surface grime and light scratches but is intact without significant chips or fractures.
