A vintage British spring-balance hanging scale manufactured by Reuben Heaton. The circular body is constructed from aluminium with a dull grey finish, featuring steel hanging loops and a bottom hook. The printed metal dial is calibrated for weights from 0 to 7 lbs, with a secondary outer scale graduated 1 through 15 for ounces. A central graphic depicts a portrait of Izaak Walton with his name inscribed below. The scale is fitted with a red-painted metal pointer secured by a brass central nut.
The dial is inscribed: REUBEN HEATON / 33 STATION RD. / STREETLY, SUTTON COLDFIELD, / WEST MIDLANDS B74 3JZ / Makers / THE EVER READY SCALE.
The reverse features a riveted rectangular plate reading: PRESET FOR BASKET APPROX: / 1 1/4 lbs. or .5 kilo. / DO NOT DROP ON HOOK / DO NOT GREASE PINION OR RACK / DO NOT GREASE OR OIL SPRINGS.
Dial diameter: 15 cm.
Condition report:
The scale is in good vintage condition. The dial face remains clear and legible with minor age-related spotting. The aluminium casing shows general surface abrasions and scratches consistent with outdoor use. Steel hardware exhibits light surface corrosion and oxidation. The internal spring mechanism appears intact as the pointer sits correctly at the zero position.
