This mid-century rocking chair is designed in the Windsor style, closely resembling the Grandfather model produced by Ercol. The piece features a high, steam-bent hoop back containing vertical spindles, paired with sweeping bentwood arms supported by angled uprights. The construction utilizes a solid elm saddle seat and a beech wood frame, with the splayed legs and back spindles secured to the seat using traditional through-wedged tenon joints. The entire chair is finished in a dark stain. Accompanying the chair is a set of detachable, fitted cushions upholstered in a floral tapestry-patterned fabric in shades of green, cream, and pink.
Condition report:
The chair is in good structural condition. The dark-stained finish shows age-related wear, including visible scuffs, scratches, and areas of thinning lacquer, particularly on the leading edges of the armrests and the rockers. The upholstery appears intact but would benefit from light cleaning.
