A Dutch Gouda art pottery earthenware vase featuring a bulbous body, a short neck, and a wide flared rim. The piece is decorated in the characteristic matte glaze style with stylised abstract floral and organic motifs in shades of emerald green, dark blue, ochre yellow, and chocolate brown. These colourful patterns are set against a cream-coloured ground and framed by a matte black background, with hand-painted brown outlines providing a stained-glass or cuerda seca effect. The base features hand-painted marks in a brownish-gold glaze including the shape number H v. 253, the pattern or decorator mark PEL. B., and the origin mark GOUDA. This item is typical of early to mid-20th-century Dutch ceramic production.
Condition report:
The vase is in overall good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of restoration. There is minor shelf wear to the unglazed foot ring and very light surface marks consistent with age and handling. The matte glaze surface remains well-preserved.
