A vintage rectangular utility or tool chest of wooden construction. The body of the chest displays a heavy wood grain, while the lid is formed from a plywood panel. The exterior surface is finished with a dark stain, contrasting with an interior that has been painted black. The internal compartment is fitted with several wooden brackets and supports, indicating it was likely used to house specific tools or equipment. Hardware includes three modern brass-toned butt hinges and an internal wire stay on the right-hand side to support the lid when open. A simple wire hook-and-eye latch is fitted to the front. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The chest is in a well-used, rustic condition. The exterior finish shows significant wear throughout, including numerous scratches, scuffs, and prominent drip marks likely from paint or varnish. There is minor chipping and loss to the wood at the bottom edges and corners. The interior exhibits heavy signs of age and previous use.
