A sterling silver hinged pill or trinket box of oval form, constructed from 925 silver. The lid features a repousse border of scrolling acanthus leaves and foliate motifs surrounding a plain, domed central field. The sides and base are plain with a polished finish. The interior reveals the marks and the reverse of the repousse work. The box is fitted with a simple barrel hinge. The item bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark L-J for Lawrence Jewellery, the 925 fineness mark for sterling silver, the anchor assay office mark for Birmingham, and the date letter R for 1991.
Condition report:
The lid shows several significant undulations and dents to the domed central section and border. The surface exhibits fine scratches and general wear consistent with age and use. There is a light patina and some tarnish visible within the recessed areas of the decorative border. The hinge remains functional.
