This set comprises a bone china wash jug and matching basin, manufactured by Hammersley & Co. of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Both pieces are decorated in an ornate Imari-style palette, characterised by deep cobalt blue, iron red enamels, and heavy gold gilding. The pattern features stylised white floral blossoms and panels set against a rich blue ground, further embellished with elaborate hand-applied gilt scrollwork and geometric patterns. Both items feature scalloped rims highlighted with gold. The jug is designed with a prominent, richly gilded scroll-form handle. The base of the items bears a red printed backstamp. This mark consists of a central crown symbol surrounded by the text Hammersley & Co, with Bone China and Made in England printed below. A small digit 1 is printed to the left of the crown.
Condition report:
The pieces are in good overall condition. There is visible staining and residue inside the neck of the jug. The gilding appears mostly intact with minor surface wear consistent with age and use. No large chips, cracks, or visible repairs are apparent.
