A large circular ironstone bowl featuring a deep form and tapering foot, decorated in an Imari palette using overglaze enamels of cobalt blue, iron red, bright green, and manganese brown. The interior centre depicts a stylized Chinoiserie landscape scene including a bridge and pagoda, surrounded by dense borders of scrolling acanthus foliage and floral motifs. The exterior body is decorated with repeating floral sprays. The piece is finished with extensive hand-applied gilding throughout and a solid gilded rim. This decoration and form are characteristic of the Amherst pattern produced by various Staffordshire potteries. No maker marks are visible.
Diameter: 220mm.
Condition report:
Significant rubbing and wear to the gilding is present, particularly at the rim and on the raised interior motifs. Fine, age-related crazing is evident across the glaze throughout, with some minor staining visible in the well. No major chips, cracks, or professional repairs are observed.
