Description
This Edwardian egg cup is crafted from 925 silver and features a classic pedestal form with a circular spreading foot and a slightly flared rim. Both the rim and the base are decorated with a subtle reeded border. The interior retains a visible gold-wash gilt finish. The item bears the maker mark E and Co in an oval cartouche for Elkington and Co. Adjacent hallmarks include an anchor for the Birmingham assay office, a lion passant confirming the use of 925 silver, and the lowercase date letter l for the year 1910. The egg cup is housed in its original green fitted presentation box, with the interior lid gold-stamped for the retailer H. L. Brown and Son, Jewellers by Appointment, 70, Fargate, Sheffield.
Condition report:
The exterior silver surface displays a natural aged patina and light surface scratches consistent with age and use. The gilt interior shows some wear and mottled tarnish. The original presentation box remains intact but shows shelf wear and some staining to the interior lining.
