Description

A traditional English coopered oak biscuit barrel featuring wooden staves bound by silver-toned metal hoops at the top and base. The barrel is fitted with a matching silver-toned lid featuring a central turned knob and a wire swing handle. A blank shield-shaped metal cartouche is mounted to the front elevation. The interior contains a removable off-white ceramic liner. Accompanying the barrel is an assortment of five small, turned, and hand-painted wooden miniature fruits, including representations of an apple, lemon, lime, pear, and a grooved bulbous form. The base of the ceramic liner displays remnants of a blue printed mark, including the numeral 7 and other illegible characters.

Condition report:

The oak body shows an aged patina and rich colour. The silver-toned metalwork exhibits significant wear, oxidation, and pitting, notably to the lid and upper rim. The ceramic liner shows fine surface crazing and some staining to the interior base. The miniature wooden fruits display minor scuffs and paint loss consistent with age and use.
