Description
A substantial hand-carved hardwood sculpture of a recumbent dog, stylistically representing a Shar Pei breed. The figure is rendered in a resting position with the front paws tucked. The medium is a solid timber, finished with a two-tone stain; a warm mid-brown tone is used for the main body, while dark-stained accents highlight the eyes, nose, ears, and paws. The carving is characterised by deep, rhythmic incisions that create exaggerated skin folds and wrinkles across the head, neck, and torso. The surface is polished and exhibits a visible wood grain. No signatures or maker’s marks are visible on the exterior surfaces.

Condition report:
The sculpture is in good decorative condition. There are minor surface abrasions and light surface scratches consistent with age and handling. Small, stable drying cracks typical of solid timber are visible in several areas.
