Lot 20:
Description
This lot comprises three British items of military, civic, and fraternal interest. The first item is a British 1939-1945 War Medal, a campaign medal awarded for service during the Second World War. Struck in cupro-nickel, the obverse features the crowned effigy of King George VI with the inscription GEORGIVS VI G. BR. OMN. REX ET INDIAE IMP. The reverse illustrates a lion standing over a fallen two-headed dragon, representing the Axis powers, with the dates 1939 and 1945. It is fitted with its original suspension bar. The second piece is a bronze-toned commemorative medallion for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2002. The obverse depicts a central crown containing the date 2002, surrounded by the text THE QUEEN’S GOLDEN JUBILEE. The reverse is inscribed CLOWNE PARISH COUNCIL, indicating it was a local commemorative issue. The third item is a silver-toned metal medallion for the British United Order of Odd Fellows (BUOOF). The obverse shows the order’s coat of arms, including a beehive crest and a shield with four quarters, within the legend THE BRITISH UNITED ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS. The reverse features a pair of clasped hands and is inscribed EXECUTIVE COUNCIL and ESTABLISHED SEPTEMBER 25 1867.
Condition report:
The 1939-1945 War Medal is in good condition with minor surface tarnishing; the original ribbon is missing. The Golden Jubilee medallion is in good condition with an even, aged patina. The Odd Fellows medallion shows significant tarnishing and surface wear consistent with age, particularly on the reverse face; it retains a small suspension ring.
