Description

A George I 925 silver lidded tankard of tapering cylindrical form. The piece is constructed with a stepped, domed lid featuring a volute scroll thumbpiece and a sturdy scroll handle with a heart-shaped terminal. The body is decorated with a single horizontal moulded band and is supported by a flared, moulded foot. Hallmarks are present on the interior of the lid and the side of the body, including the Britannia mark of a seated female figure, the lion’s head erased for the London Assay Office, the date letter A for 1716, and a partially legible maker’s mark within a shaped punch.

Condition report:

The tankard is in good antique condition with surface wear, minor scratches, and patination consistent with its age. The interior shows typical signs of use and oxidation. The hinge and handle are secure and function correctly.
