Lot 59:
Description
This lot consists of a matching pair of bell-shaped glass decanters and a decorative wall plaque. Each decanter is fashioned from clear glass with a long tapering neck and a wide flared base. The bodies are decorated with an etched or sandblasted image of a three-masted sailing ship upon stylised waves. Both decanters are complete with their original ground-glass stoppers featuring flattened circular grips. The accompanying decorative wall plaque features a detailed metal relief of a two-masted sailing vessel with full rigging, mounted on a rectangular black textured board. A silver-toned label at the bottom left is inscribed with the text Bergantin and US Navy 1775. This lot represents nautical-themed giftware likely produced in the late 20th century.
Plaque: 25cm x 19cm.
Condition report:
The glass appears clear and free from internal clouding or sick glass symptoms. No chips or cracks are visible to the decanter bodies or the ground-glass stoppers. The metal relief on the plaque is in good condition with an aged patina. The black backing board shows light surface scuffs and dust consistent with age.
