Description

A pair of carnival glass vases featuring a vibrant iridescent finish over a cobalt blue glass substrate. The vases are decorated in the Tree Trunk pattern, characterised by vertical, irregular ribbing resembling bark and small raised droplets located near the flared, hand-ruffled rims. The iridescence displays a spectrum of metallic green, purple, and gold tones. These pieces are produced using pressed glass techniques with a molded circular base and show no evidence of a snapped or polished pontil mark. While the form and pattern are consistent with early 20th-century manufacturers such as Northwood or Fenton, no maker marks or signatures are visible on either piece.

Height: 250mm.

Condition report:

The first vase sustains significant damage consisting of a large chip and loss to the foot rim, measuring approximately 3cm in width, which reveals the underlying blue glass. The second vase remains in good overall condition with no visible chips or cracks. Both items exhibit minor surface wear, light scratching to the iridescent lustre, and small air bubbles trapped within the glass from the time of manufacture.
