Lot 302:
Description
This domestic vessel is constructed from salt-glazed stoneware and dates to the early 20th century. The piece is of horizontal cylindrical form with a flattened underside designed for stability. It features a rounded terminal at one end and a raised filler neck positioned centrally on the top surface. The area surrounding the filler neck is decorated with a moulded, radiating fluted or sunburst motif. The body is finished in a buff-coloured salt glaze, displaying a characteristic orange peel texture and minor iron spotting consistent with the kiln firing process. The item is complete with a matching ceramic screw-in stopper, which has a flat top and vertically ribbed sides for grip. A dark-coloured gasket is present between the stopper and the neck. While indistinct markings are visible on the vertical edge of the stopper, no definitive maker’s mark or capacity stamp is visible on the main body.
Condition report:
The item is in generally good condition. There is a small, visible chip on the top edge of the ceramic stopper. The body exhibits typical manufacturing imperfections, including minor glaze pitting and kiln scars. No significant cracks or staining are evident.
