Description
A pair of late 20th-century porcelain vases produced for the Franklin Mint as part of the Dance of the Celestial Dragon collection, dated 1985. Each vase is of baluster form with a flared rim and is presented on a fitted black circular stand. The bodies are decorated in a polychrome palette with a central frieze of traditional-style dragons in shades of green, blue, and purple, depicted pursuing flaming pearls amidst stylised clouds. The neck of each vase features floral sprays, including peonies, set between various decorative borders including a blue Greek key-fret band at the shoulder, ruyi-head borders, and a multi-coloured lappet band to the foot. The rims and bases are finished with gilt highlights. The underside of each vase features a printed mark within a scalloped circular border reading The DANCE of the CELESTIAL DRAGON above a black square seal mark containing stylised characters, the copyright symbol and FM 1985, and the text FINE PORCELAIN MADE IN CHINA.
Height (including stands): Approximately 26 cm
Height (vase only): Approximately 23 cm.
Condition report:
The vases appear to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or significant loss to the enamel or gilt decoration. There is light surface wear consistent with age, particularly to the undersides of the wooden stands.
