Description
A 1997 The Hound of the Baskervilles Coin First Day Cover issued as part of the Westminster and Mercury British Isles Coin Cover Collection. The cover features a set of four UK Royal Mail Tales of Terror commemorative stamps with denominations of 26p, 31p, 37p, and 43p. The stamps are tied to the cover by a black pictorial circular date stamp (CDS) from Baker Street, London NW1, dated 13th May 1997, featuring a Sherlock Holmes silhouette profile. Centred within the cover is a Gibraltar 1 Crown commemorative coin. The coin reverse is inscribed 100th Anniversary of the Return of Sherlock Holmes and depicts a scene titled The Hound of the Baskervilles. The entire assembly is mounted on a printed descriptive card which identifies the item as part of a limited edition of 6,000. This specific cover is individually numbered 0098.
Condition report:
The stamps are well-centred within the block and the first day cancellations are clear and well-struck. The cover and descriptive card appear in excellent condition with no visible signs of foxing, toning, or handling wear. The coin is protected within a clear sleeve and appears to be in uncirculated condition.
