A group of five Second World War campaign medals presented in a glazed wooden display frame with a black backing.. The collection consists of a 1939-1945 Star, an Africa Star, and a Burma Star, each being a bronze six-pointed star featuring the royal GRI monogram surmounted by a crown. These are accompanied by a cupro-nickel Defence Medal and a cupro-nickel War Medal 1939-1945, both bearing the uncrowned effigy of King George VI. The War Medal is adorned with a bronze oak leaf emblem on the ribbon, signifying a Mention in Despatches (M.I.D.). The handwritten tag included with the lot reads: SET OF 5 – WWII MEDALS / 1939-45 STAR, AFRICA STAR, / BURMA STAR, DEFENCE / MEDAL, WAR MEDAL WITH / M.I.D – FROM THE FAMILY / OF LT-COL A.A. The medals are mounted with their respective ribbons, which appear to be original silk or early replacements.

Frame width: 210 mm
Frame height: 172 mm.

Condition report:

The medals exhibit a natural light patina and surface tarnishing consistent with age. The ribbons show minor age-related fading and a light accumulation of dust. The wooden frame displays some wear to the edges and corners, particularly at the bottom left. The black backing paper has been partially modified to allow for the attachment of the provenance tag string. The medals are fixed within the glazed frame and have not been removed for inspection of the rims; naming cannot be verified.
