Lot 149:
Description
Attributed to Ercol, this mid-century modern Windsor style rocking chair is the Grandfather model 315. The piece is constructed with a beech wood frame and spindles and a solid elm wood saddle seat, featuring a dark stained finish. The design includes a high, arched bentwood hoop back enclosing thirteen vertical spindles. The out-swept arms are supported by tapering spindles. The solid, shaped seat is mounted on turned legs and H-pattern stretchers, all set upon curved rockers. The chair is accompanied by a two-piece detachable cushion set for the seat and back, featuring a floral tapestry-patterned fabric, secured to the frame with fabric ties. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The chair is in good vintage condition. The dark finish shows some light surface wear, minor scuffs, and thinning consistent with age and regular use, particularly on the armrests and the ends of the rockers. The cushions appear well-maintained. Structural joinery appears sound.
