Description
A hand-carved wooden folk art sculpture of a male labourer, carved from a single block of wood. The figure is depicted with a beard and short hair, wearing a short-sleeved shirt with red stain and trousers with dark stain, and is shown holding a large spade or shovel. The work exhibits a stylised, expressive quality with prominent chisel marks throughout the body and face, and incised wavy line details on the sleeves and trousers. The sculpture stands on an integral, irregular base. No signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers are visible. The piece is characteristic of Jamaican folk art wood carvings.
