A Mercury ‘The New British Fifty Pence Coin’ commemorative coin cover, numbered 1007 of a limited edition of 5,000. The set comprises a Bank of England ten-shilling banknote and two 1997 heptagonal fifty-pence coins. The banknote, serial number 03N 178314, features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the signature of Chief Cashier J. S. Fforde. The two cupro-nickel coins represent the reduced-size 50p specification introduced in 1997, featuring the seated Britannia reverse. The cover is franked with a pictorial London stamp and a Bank of England, London circular postmark dated 1st September 1997, marking the official issue date of the new coinage. The items are presented in a decorative card folder featuring a London skyline illustration.
