Description

French struck bronze commemorative medal for the Conquest of Egypt, 1798. The obverse features a Napoleon Bonaparte portrait bust, signed J. JOUANNIN. F. DENON. D. at the base. The reverse features a Conquest of Egypt reverse, signed BRENET. F. DENON. D. in the exergue. The exergue is inscribed L’EGYPTE CONQUISE and MDCCXCVIII. This medal was produced under the direction of Dominique-Vivant Denon and engraved by Jean-Urbain Jouannin and Nicolas-Guy-Antoine Brenet. It commemorates the French campaign in Egypt led by General Napoleon Bonaparte.


Condition report:

The medal displays a consistent golden-brown patina with minor surface scratches. Light wear is present on the highest points of the relief, consistent with an extremely fine grade.
