Lot 188:
Description
A two-piece lot consisting of a silver-plated table box and a cast metal bottle opener. The rectangular box features a hinged lid with chased scrollwork and foliate patterns surrounding a central cartouche engraved with the initials M. G. & A. M. The interior is wood-lined with two compartments. The inside of the lid bears stamps for ALPHA PLATE and VINERS OF SHEFFIELD ENGLAND, including a corporate mark granted by the Cutlers Company in 1836. The accompanying bottle opener features a handle cast as a stylised nude female figure, likely made of brass or bronze.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit an aged patina and signs of wear. The box shows significant tarnish across its exterior surfaces. The metal bottle opener shows surface wear consistent with age.
