Lot 52:
Description
A collection of British and international coinage and commemorative medals housed in a rectangular lithographed metal tin. The lot includes a 1951 Festival of Britain crown (Five Shillings) featuring the bare head portrait of George VI, contained within its original burgundy presentation box and cardboard sleeve. Also present is a silver-coloured commemorative medal from The Tower Mint, London, in a blue presentation case with an instructional insert. Further items include a 1981 Royal Wedding crown depicting the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer in a plastic flip, and a bronze Guernsey 8 doubles coin. The remainder of the lot consists of a large quantity of loose circulated coins in various base metals, including copper, bronze, and cupro-nickel, from various jurisdictions. The storage tin features a bird and floral motif with a hinged lid.
Condition report:
The commemorative pieces in original packaging remain well-preserved. The loose coinage exhibits a range of conditions from fine to heavily circulated, with evidence of significant wear, surface marks, and toning throughout. The presentation boxes show minor shelf wear. The lithographed metal tin shows considerable surface wear, oxidation, and crazing to the finish.
