Description
A mid-20th-century writing set by Paper Mate, USA, comprising a ballpoint pen and a matching mechanical pencil. Both instruments are constructed with slim, tapered barrels of brushed stainless steel and feature polished chrome-plated clips and tips. The ballpoint pen utilizes a clip-actuated retraction mechanism, while the mechanical pencil operates via a top-plunger action. Each clip is inset with a white rectangular plaque displaying the signature double heart logo in black. The set is presented in its original wood-effect case, which features a gold-printed logo on the exterior and interior lid. The interior is lined with red velvet and ivory-coloured satin. The ballpoint pen barrel is marked PAPER MATE near the centre band.
Condition report:
Both instruments are in good vintage condition, exhibiting minor surface micro-scratching consistent with light use. There are no visible dents or cracks to the metal components. The clip and plunger mechanisms are functional. The presentation case shows light age-related wear to the exterior, and the interior satin lining displays mild yellowing and discolouration. The ballpoint pen ink state is untested and may require a fresh refill.
